Hotel Terraza in Roses, Spain: Can’t Beat The View from the Rooftop Spa

Roses wasn’t on top of my places-to-go list. Not because I heard anything bad because it, but simply because there are plenty of other places on the Costa Brava I had heard so much more about. So I’m glad that a recent blogger trip organised by Costa Brava took me there and showed me the beauty of this town. You can read all about the stunning hiking paths around Roses in my article on the Cami de Ronda and Cap de Creus. But on to the hotel we stayed at, Hotel Terraza. A place with a wonderful rooftop spa and an unbeatable view.

What makes Hotel Terraza special:

The terraces are what make the hotel special, as the name suggests. Hotel Terraza is right on the beach, with sea views from your room. There’s a private lawn area between the hotel and the beach with sun loungers for hotel guests only. Breakfast is served on the ground floor, and you can sit outside on the terrace by the pool to eat. It’s a great place to start the day if you ask me! But even better is the roof top spa, with an outdoor pool and jacuzzi with stunning views of the beach on one side and the Roses Citadel ruins on the other side (geek adventurer tip: the Citadel offers multiple geocaching challenges!)

What to eat:

There’s an evening menu that changes daily, with seafood featuring prominently. I had a shrimp starter that featured a more than generous amount of shrimp on a vegetable puree. The pastries at breakfast were also great, really fresh and crispy!

What to do around the hotel:

With the beach right in front of you and two pools and a spa to choose from, it’s tempting to stay right there. But Roses has a lot to offer. The ancient Citadel is within walking distance, and the Cami de Ronda is stunning just north of Roses. For wine lovers, the Coll de Roses Wine Museum is a tempting place as well: They offer a fancy high tech audio-visual tour explaining the history of wine production in the area. Walking around the property and the surrounding vineyards is a nice way to spend an afternoon and get to know one of the great prides of Catalunya, its wines – particularly if you finish your walk with a wine tasting in their shop.

The Verdict:

Roses is a nice base for exploring the Costa Brava, and Hotel Terraza is a great option particularly for those looking for a bit of peace and quiet and those who enjoy some spa time after an active day out.

I enjoyed my time in Roses and a complementary stay at Hotel Terraza during a blogger trip sponsored by Costa Brava Tourism. Opinions are 100% my own though, and I truly enjoyed the activities and places I’m recommending to you!
